“I am a place, a place where things come together, then fly apart.” —Mark Strand
We are all conveniently arranged collections of atoms that have somehow arranged themselves just right so that we may exist for a period of time, calling ourselves sentient beings, subject to an uncharitable time’s languorous orders. We are a grand anomaly, each one of us. Let us not waste it.

On this Valentine’s Day, I find it fitting that I aver my ever-growing love for words. It goes without saying that I absolutely love my family and friends, but words are with me every day (and in multitudes). They keep life fresh and always find new ways to express the simplicities and the complexities in countless ways, yet utterly fail to adequately describe other things. Words are the imperfect perfect medium for communication, but I’m perfectly content with that.
Recently, old words have become new words, as I look to the Oxford English Dictionary and other sources for those words that have such relevancy but have slowly been phased out from our everyday lexicon. I still see so much value in most of the words I rediscover and incorporate them into my expanding vocabulary, often nonplussing others in discourse (but also often educating them in the process).
Ironically, it’s Valentine’s Day, which brings out in abundance the word “love,” which is arguably one of the more difficult words to define. But that’s okay. Words, I love you.
Love always,
Alex
